The three heroes from afar. by Suzanne-Helmigh The three heroes from afar. by Suzanne-Helmigh
26/01/2013: Made edits to the faces, colors and rendering techniques, to me it looks much better now.
For a before and after: have a look here on my blog: [link]

I had this on my pc for a while.. Totally forgot about it.
Thought this might be worth uploading :)

I streamed most of the process.

Yes Borus is part of this image :)

I like the lighting on the piece, very atmospheric. I don't really understand the angle of the large man's head and how his nose looks. Is his nose really hooked? Because if his head's tipped back it should probably be the underside of his nose rather than the tip we can see now. The composition is well done as well, it draws the eye down.

oh lol it's the weird shading that makes his nose that way haha didn't notice that :P it's suppose to be exactly copy pasted form this painting: [link]

Good of you to notice haha now it cannot be unseen again, I'll have to edit it :P

The compositional flow was always nice on this one...but now the more saturated red violet really helps your revised version pop even more

I want to be honest, I can understand why you try to improve the image, I did it multiple times with one piece too, but it never really helped it and I think it is same about this one. What I see are different colours, but they have the same light values and you lost some details of the effects also. The vanishing of the little dots at the flares are fine, because you wouldn't see so much of them in a moving object and get lost of them gives it a bit more dynamic.
But if I were you I would repaint it completely, than try to fix things, I know it is hard to let go on an image, but creating it new could give you much more opportunities to improve and try new things. Don't get me wrong, the image is fine, I just can't see a difference which maybe counts up to the time effort creating it. :)

There is often good lessons to be found in editing old work, and of course in repainting it as well :) But I'll probably come up with a better composition when I will make another artwork with these 3 characters :) I had a dungeon scene in mind.

I make 1 to 3 new paintings every day :P so I don't wanna start this one over for the sake of painting stuff anew.
I'll make a new but different one :)
