“There is a staircase so be careful. Just hold onto me while we descend,” he instructed, taking her hand in his. The temperature dropped noticeably as they made their way down the spiraling staircase, transitioning from scorching summer heat to a coolness reminiscent of a breezy day of spring. The temptation to peek proved too great and for a brief moment she opened one of her eyes.
“No peeking,” he said in his usual playful tone, so Ninae clenched both her eyes shut. How did he know? Perhaps he just knew her well enough by now.

This picture reminded me of Tamora Pierce's Keladry character, who was afraid of heights. There is a scene where Keladry has to have someone help her down the steps of a tower like this. She has to overcome her fear of heights as part of her goal to become a knight.
