Thanks so much your work is really cool, gave you a watch So cool that wizards bought your work, how did that happen? Did you send it to them or did they find it online? It looks great.
Thank you! I went to GenCon Indy 2012, a gaming convention here in the states that happened to be about a four hour drive from my home. Went there with an 8.5 x11 inch portfolio of everything you see here on DA, and included life size mockups of my card art on actual cards I made. Paizo, Fantasy Flight, MTG and D&D all wanted me and Jeremy Jarvis from MTG wanted to purchase 2 of my pieces on the spot. After the reviews, and drinks at a local bar with everyone (including Todd Lockwood) I sent everyone home with card mockups and prints. Then Jeremy called me and wanted 6 pieces. I was obviously tripping out with Joy. Just goes to show you how important conventions can be!
Oh my god that sounds like the dream breakthrough! You must be one happy man still Sadly they don't come here in Europe, I was at an convention last year , Paizo and Fantasy flight games where there, but they were extremely cranky and there were just regular employees, no CEO's or art directors . Do you still get to work on cool gigs form those company's?
Yes, Paizo and FF send me stuff, but Im so busy with mtg and even some cryptizoic stuff (they handle the WoW TCG) that I kinda have to turn them down. MTG is a dream job (as far as freelance goes) and wizards pays the best hands down, trust me. Getting in with them is a big deal and from what I hear a tough cookie to crack. It was my first time applying with them so I got lucky I suppose.
Cool Yeah I work for Cryptozoic too, haven't heard anything form them since Christmas, I think I have to email them again. Stopped working for ffg a while ago they don't pay enough to keep up the rent you know But MTG is epic, I've send my portfolio to them last week actually. Guess they were not to impressed XD ah well. You should try Aplibot, a lot of Magic the gathering artists work for them too (they seem to pay even better.) But you don't need to if magic keeps you busy : Did you get to do work for the gatecrash set?
The thing about mtg is this: Every time you see something released just remember then it was created just about 12 months before that. Gatecrash came out before I began my work with them ( I missed out ). I may just have to try my hand at applibot for Legend of the Cryptids. But im working on a concept art portfolio too so maybe if time allows. Since I have done lots of card art, some promo stuff and book covers ( Fellow mtg artist Dave Palumbo commissioned me for Nightshade Books) I want to get into gaming and maybe even movies someday. Since we are fb friends just message me on there, Im on there way too much lol.
